Infertility is a condition that affects roughly 10% of couples in the United States and is defined as the inability to get pregnant after a year of unprotected sex. This is a fairly common condition and one that truly has devastating effects on the couple trying to get pregnant. In women the common causes of infertility include: Hormonal issues, cervical problems, damage fallopian tubes, and uterine causes. Couples who are having difficulty getting pregnant will often go to great lengths to solve this problem. Fertility drugs are a common approach but carry with them a host of possible long term side effects including increased risk of cancer.
Other forms of treatment include, surgery, artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, egg donation as well as a few other lesser known therapies. Chiropractic care is possibly the least known therapy for someone struggling to become pregnant. Most people are not aware of the role the nervous system plays in becoming pregnant and how that relates to chiropractic care. Pregnancy can only occur when a great many bodily functions are working properly. The female’s reproductive system has to be working properly for pregnancy to first occur, and then for the fetus to be carried full term. This means a healthy reproductive system that is working under the direction of the nervous system.
